Progress on "Bee Game 2", built in Godot, is rapidly catching up to the old Unity version of the game. New "bees", mobile enemies, improved animation, and the technical groundwork for campaign mode are all introduced by this update.

As promised in the previous update, my next update focuses on project exports. That means a playable alpha of the game is now available! To jump straight into the alpha, click on "Play Now!" at the top of this blog. You will need the password in order to access the page.

In the past week I've fleshed out the basic title screen. And I mean basic. But it has the most important features: A way to start the game, a way to quit the game, settings, and leaderboards. Another function of the title screen is selecting a player name for the leaderboard ("high score board"). This window appears after the player presses "Play", but before loading into the first level. Building this window was a good exercise in learning Godot's UI tools.

I've made a lot of progress in the past week, scratching out loads of new basic systems. Most importantly, the core gameplay loop has been implemented: guard the nest from attackers by issuing orders to your bees. As before, the first two types of bees are the basic bee whose "drop" produces new honeycomb, and a second bee whose "drop" destroys honeycomb.

I've finally put together a real blog for sharing progress on the bee game. This blog is built on a new-to-me framework called a static site generator. I've made a few attempts at blogging with Wordpress and other content management systems, but I found most of the ones I tried to be too cumbersome for a single-author blog. They also tended to be limited or difficult to customize.
